The cost for a pint

Dear Sir or Madam,

I write in response to previous correspondence (dated March 30th), recollecting the profound disbelief and terror that struck when the cost of a single pint of Guinness in Dublin exceeded two shillings (an elevation of roughly 12.7 pence) back in 1967. Today’s pint cost stands at roughly €6, equating to a yearly inflation rate of nearly 7 per cent. Should this trend persist, one can expect to pay as high as €10 for a pint in approximately eight years!

Years ago, I found myself in Westport where local pub owners resorted to dispensing Guinness in half-litre glass vessels which accounted for about 90 per cent of a standard pint in volume. I believe this was a strategic initiative to maintain the price beneath a specific limit. – Kind regards,
BILLY QUINN,
Howth,
County Dublin.
