The Cork City Council has issued an alert regarding potential flood risks caused by elevated spring tides

The public has been urged by Cork City Council to be vigilant in anticipation of possible flooding over the coming weekend. A series of unusually high astronomical spring tides from Saturday through Tuesday has led to the warning, with likely minor, localised flooding in places lying low near the water’s edge. These include areas like Mathew Quay, Morrison’s Quay, Union Quay, Trinity Bridge and South Terrace.

Potential damage might extend to areas such as Rutland Street, Sawmill Street, Lavitt’s Quay, Kyrls Street, Proby’s Quay, Crosses Green, Sharman Crawford St and Wandesford Quay. The highest tide on Saturday is expected at 5.00 pm, followed by two tides on Sunday at 5.20 am and 5.40 pm, respectively.

The council’s Flood Assessment Team is monitoring the situation continuously and will be issuing updates regularly on the tidal outlook. These updates can be accessed on their X account, @corkcitycouncil, or via their official website: www.corkcity.ie.

Residents are encouraged to take all necessary measures to ensure the safety of their properties from potential flooding.
