The company of renowned chef, Neven Maguire, has reported a two-fold increase in its pre-tax profits

Lucon Ltd, the company that owns and manages MacNean Restaurant and guesthouse in Blacklion, Co Cavan, has seen its pretax profits more than double in 2023 to €105,840, up from €51,253 the previous year. This impressive growth in profit was achieved despite a decline in ‘other operating income’ of €101,437. This significantly boosted profit also includes non-cash depreciation and amortisation costs of €227,751.

Jointly owned by renowned Irish chef, Neven Maguire, and his wife, Amelda, the couple run this restaurant-accommodation venture together. Neven, a regular face on TV and radio, is one of Ireland’s top culinary talents.

However, with the decrease in profit also came a slight reduction in staff members, down from 62 to 59. This includes 57 employees categorised as ‘administration’ and two directors.

As the company saw out the end of 2023, the cash reserve stood at €2.1 million. Furthermore, the company’s accumulated funds at the end of the same year amounted to €276,914.

Despite the success, the directors’ remuneration saw a decrease, from €129,780 to €113,780. Lastly, Lucon Ltd compensated €41,375 in corporate tax, leaving a post-tax profit of €64,465 for the year 2023.

Amelda Maguire wholly owns a linked company, HCM Productions Ltd, which has yet to submit financial records for the year 2023. The most current data reveals a pretax profit of €490,687 in 2022, reflecting a climb of 26% from the preceding year’s pretax earnings of €388,347. The core operations of HCM Productions Ltd entail the management and synchronisation of a cookery school’s operation, bolstered by related PR work, exhibits, and media activities. In addition, Mr. Maguire, apart from authoring 19 cookery volumes, has developed a product line available at Dunnes Stores.
