Benefits of using foil insulation
Foil insulation is mostly made from aluminium and is ideal for use within all areas of the house. It is thought to work under a reflective mechanism whereby it retains or reflects radiant heat according to the outside prevailing temperature.
Benefits
Foil insulation offers an efficient airtight system when used to insulate roofs. This ensures that most heat is not lost from a building during winter. This energy conservation is estimated to save up to 30% of energy used for heating purposes. Due the thin nature of foil insulation, it does not take up space as compared to other thicker insulators that would go even a few hundred millimetres thus, consuming living space.
Varieties of foil insulation
There are many versions of the foil insulation available in the market.
Reflective foil insulation
One such version is the reflective foil insulation. This is excellent at reducing radiant heat transfer hence, reducing the energy used in heating. The reflective property of foil keeps the heat during winter and reflects it off during summer, therefore reducing the energy needs.
Unlike other thicker and fibre-related insulating products, foil insulation does not trap air or vapour. Therefore, this cannot trap a musky odour in rooms where there is much scent production. Also the no-moisture trapping property does not create ample breeding sites for microorganisms that like damp places.
Installation and price
The installation process is simple and easy. It does not require trained personnel to do so. It is cheap to install; one can use simple rafters and screws for the installation process. Foil is easy to cut and fit to tailor-made shapes. This makes it ideal to use in non-ordinary shaped points in the room.
Aluminium is non-toxic and is environmentally safe to use. It contains no fibres that would irritate the eyes or respiratory passages. It can also be easily recycled hence, does not pose a pollution threat to environment after usage. As the material used to manufacture the foil is non-irritant, one needs not wear protective clothing during the installation process. It is also one of the most effective and cheap insulation available in the market today.
Bottom line
Note on foil insulation
As compared to other complicated types of insulation, foil insulation could make your work easier and cut on your budget greatly while delivering the same service. It has a long life of aproximately fifty years of service.
