The assisted living project in Goatstown has received approval to proceed

The Dún Laoghaire Rathdown County Council has greenlighted Tetrarch Residential Ltd’s disputed proposals for 109 “assisted living” residential units designed for individuals aged 65 and above, situated on land belonging to the Society of Sacred Heart order of nuns, neighbouring Mount Anville girls schools in Goatstown. Despite adverse local opinions, the planning body has sanctioned the Large-Scale Residential Development (LRD) on the 2.9-acre area, coined as the “old farm”, located within the Mount Anville premises in south Dublin. This favourable verdict was passed after the applicant deducted five units from their proposed 114 unit scheme.

The council stamped its approval on the scheme after determining that it wouldn’t tarnish the area’s amenities but aligns with the existing Development Plan’s protocols. Certain locals were in opposition to this decision.

A representative for Tetrarch Residential expressed euphoria on Tuesday at getting the planning permission for the urgently required assisted living development scheme at Mount Anville. Their planning report, which suggested that the planning permission be approved, concluded that the dimensions and design of the finalised scheme won’t cast an adverse or domineering shadow on the outlook of the Old Farmhouse.

An opposition to these plans came from 49 residents of the Old Lower Kilmacud Rd, who although wholeheartedly endorse “mixed tenure age-friendly housing”, are averse to the proposal, expressing that it implies an untimely development of the Mount Anville estate.

The spokesperson for Tetrarch Residential stated their intention to become pivotal in fulfilling the long-term needs of senior citizens who intend to avail themselves of tailor-made housing arrangements specific to them. The spokesperson confirmed that the proposed development at Mount Anville will offer those aged 65 and above, the convenience to move from their family houses to modern, high-quality, low-maintenance and secure properties that provide a more suitable solution to meet their necessities, should they opt for it.

“The development will also make sure that those requiring support to live independently need not heavily rely on their family, the healthcare system or other governmental services. Instead, they can receive an adequate amount of help whilst belong to a dynamic and supportive housing community consisting entirely of like-minded individuals”, he concluded.
