Helen Wogan, the spouse of the late television icon Terry Wogan, has passed away following an exceptional life, according to her son. Mark Wogan expressed his hope that his mother and his father, who lost his life to cancer in the first month of 2016 at 77 years of age, were enjoying a vodka martini together without expecting too much commotion from them.
The information was made public by Mr Wogan on Instagram, where he posted a video of his parents over the years, captioning it with “Lady Helen Wogan 1936-2024.” He honoured his mother by celebrating her phenomenal life in his writing.
From a vibrant Irish belle to the regal Lady Wogan, she was the embodiment of elegance and charm. A mother, wife and grandmother with a rooted foundation of love and kindness. Her resilience and faith helped her navigate the many challenges life threw her way.
Her wit and phrases could have anyone in stitches. She was the essence of a true lady.
Renowned personalities including Fearne Cotton, Jamie Redknapp, Julia Bradbury, Laura Whitmore, Ronan Keating, Tess Daly, and others have joined in commemorating her. Jeremy Clarkson expressed his condolences, saying it’s always hard when such an event occurs and that his thoughts were with the family. Eamonn Holmes referred to her as an exceptional woman and credited the couple.
The renowned Sir Terry and Lady Helen had been wedded for many years and had spent over four decades living together in the quiet Buckinghamshire village of Taplow. The late broadcaster, who was a native of Limerick, was well-known for his chat shows, Children In Need, and his sharp commentary on the Eurovision Song Contest. Besides hosting a Radio 2 breakfast show for a long period, he was also the host of the renowned panel show Blankety Blank.
