“Ten Charged, €85,000 Cannabis Seized in Wexford”

In a series of distinct operations held by Wexford division on Friday, 10 persons were apprehended and later legally charged by the Gardaí. The Wexford operation, as part of Operation Thor’s strategy for the day, seized approximately €85,000 worth of cannabis throughout County Wexford. Various homes throughout the county were subject to rigorous inspection by the Gardaí.

Their search efforts led to the discovery of a clandestine cultivation operation in a dwelling based in the northern part of Wexford, where cannabis estimated to be around €43,000 was found. In the southern region of the county, another house raid led to the confiscation of more cannabis, totalling up to an additional €42,000.

Once the drug haul was secured, it was transferred to Forensic Science Ireland, which will undertake the subsequent analysis process. The operation also saw the arrest and charging of 10 individuals on counts ranging from burglary and possession with intent to supply, to criminal damage and theft.

A special court session at Carlow and Kilkenny District Courts on Friday, 29th saw a woman in her thirties, and three men (two in their thirties and one in his forties) face charges. A court appearance is awaited for another male in his twenties the following day. Furthermore, four men and one woman were also charged and subsequently released on bail, pending court appearance at a future date.

Since its initiation in 2015, Operation Thor continues its endeavours to counteract both individuals and criminal organisations involved in theft and burglary-related activities.
