Over the weekend, two serious motorway incidents resulted in a young man and a woman being critically injured.
In Kesh, Co Fermanagh, there was a collision around 6pm on Friday between a silver Peugeot 207 HDI Sport and a blue Honda Accord. The Northern Ireland Police Service (PSNI), along with emergency services from the Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service, the Northern Ireland Ambulance Service, and Air Ambulance Northern Ireland, responded rapidly to the event on Letterboy Road.
The Peugeot was operated by an 18-year-old male who sustained severe life-threatening injuries in the accident and his condition remains critical after hospitalisation. Meanwhile, the 44-year-old man helming the Honda was also hospitalised, but his injuries are reportedly non-life-threatening. After a period of closure, the road was reopened for traffic the following Saturday morning. An enquiry to determine the cause of the accident is currently being conducted by the PSNI.
Similarly, in Co Derry, a separate accident occurred where a woman in her 20s, driving a black BMW 3 Series, collided with a blue flatbed Scania lorry on Glenkeen Road. This incident occurred at around 3.20am on Saturday, and the woman was conveyed to hospital in a critical condition.
The PSNI’s collision investigation division is appealing to the public, requesting that any witnesses or individuals with dashcam footage or additional material get in touch, to assist in their investigation.
