Teen Dies, Man Injured in Donegal Crash

Following a single-car accident in Co Donegal, a teenage boy has lost his life. The collision occurred at Cross, Quigley’s Point on the R240, shortly after 11pm on a Saturday evening. The vehicle’s passenger, a teenager, unfortunately died. The car’s driver, a man in his twenties, was seriously injured and was rushed to the Royal Victoria Hospital in Belfast.

This tragic incident raises this year’s road fatalities in the country to 124 so far. This figure is notably higher than 113, the count of fatalities recorded at the same point in 2023. The previous year’s tally marked a nine-year high.

The Irish county of Donegal has suffered from a disproportionately high number of road deaths. By the middle of July, the local road fatalities were eight, compared to the total figure of ten for 2023.

Currently, the area is cordoned off as Garda forensic collision investigators are examining the incident scene.

Gardai are requesting any potential witnesses to come forward. This includes anyone who might have been driving in the area during the time and possibly recorded the incident on a dashcam. Those who have relevant information are encouraged to get in touch with Buncrana Garda Station at 074 9320540, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or another Garda station.
