Dear Sir,
I note that a somewhat concealed clause in the recently released Finance Bill is set to significantly impact the price of popular dairy alternatives such as soya, oat and almond milk. If this provision, delineated in Section 87, comes to fruition, we are looking at a substantial 23 per cent surge in their cost. This section implies an abolition of the VAT exemption for consumable goods extracted from resources like plants, grains, seeds or legumes.
This move might come as a blow to individuals like myself who must shun cow’s milk due to health concerns. It is somewhat puzzling why such a change would be proposed, considering the diminished carbon footprint of these eco-friendlier alternatives in contrast to dairy production. It is quite conceivable that the Green Party was off-guard when this VAT enhancement was subtly introduced following the budget announcement.
Yours Faithfully,
Sylvia Teskey,
