Law enforcement authorities in Dublin are examining a possible link between a violent attack that took place in the early hours of Friday and a suspected break-in attempt on a van. The assault, which occurred in the western part of the city, claimed the life of a 20-year-old man, who has since been identified as Jordan Pakenham of Tallaght.
Emergency responders provided immediate care for the wounded man at the incident site in the Drumcairn Estate; however, Pakenham could not be saved despite being rushed to hospital. His death was declared shortly after his admission to the hospital.
While investigations are still in the preliminary stages, law enforcement officers have taken into custody a man in his mid-thirties, who is believed to have been involved in the incident. By Friday evening, the man was still being questioned about the violent attack, which took place at the intersection of Drumcairn Avenue and Drumcairn Parade. A full-fledged homicide investigation has been launched into the matter.
Officers working the case suspect that a supposed theft of a vehicle on the street could be the motive behind the assault. Dublin’s police force, in an official statement, suggested that the inquiry into all aspects of the victim’s death is ongoing. Pakenham is believed to have suffered fatal stab wounds.
In their statement, the police force further explained: “Reports of a male with a serious injury came in just before 4 a.m., leading to officer and emergency service involvement. The individual, in his twenties, was transported to Tallaght University Hospital, where he unfortunately passed away.”
They confirmed that the coroner has been informed about the death, and postmortem examinations will be carried out by the Office of the State Pathologist. The crime scene has been cordoned off so that the Garda Technical Bureau can conduct a thorough investigation.
In addition to this, a high-ranking officer has been assigned to oversee the case. An incident room has been set up at the local police station in Tallaght, and a police liaison officer has been appointed to assist Pakenham’s family during this difficult time.
A man was held at a Dublin police station under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, providing the right for authorities to interrogate him for up to 24 hours without an official charge. Nevertheless, the police continued to seek witnesses, inviting anyone present in the Drumcairn Estate between 3am and 4am on the previous Friday to step forward.
Furthermore, those having video footage, including drivers with dash cams, from the aforementioned area and time, were urged to offer this visual evidence to investigation officers as per the witness appeal.
Mr. Pakenham, the deceased, received heartfelt online homage. A young lady acquainted with him portrayed him as an incredibly kind and gentle person, affirming everyone’s affection for him.
One more individual expressed their condolences to the departed’s family, describing his passing in harsh terms. They confessed their emotional distress was so powerful that it was impossible to comprehend what his family must be experiencing, lauding his distinctively pleasant personality. It’s absolutely devastating, they added.
