Swearing on the roads of Dublin

Dear Reader,

On a recent trip to the stunning metropolis of Sydney, I was struck by an unsettling difference between this city and our own capital. The absence of foul language was quite notable in Sydney, while an average walk through the streets of Dublin usually prompts a fair share of cringe-inducing expletives. Such language seems to be woven into the fabric of our conversation and while many of us find it distasteful, our tourists must surely find it repugnant. Could we entertain the thought of a nationwide “No-swearing” day?

Sincerely,
Geoff Scargill,
Wicklow.
