The new Suzuki V-Strom 1000 is about to give up its ‘concept’ status and become a proper production bike, as recently confirmed by the Japanese manufacturer itself.
The model was actually showcased at the main European Motor Shows last fall under the name of DL 1000 concept (pictured), but everybody already knew that that model was meant to anticipate the future production series of the V-Strom 1000.
At first glance, the DL 1000 concept looked slim, compact, streamlined, and a bit more ‘affordable’ than the average of its future competitors on the market.
And then there was that engine, the legendary 90° V-twin that graced the mighty TL and SV series as well as the first DOHC 8-valve, liquid cooled V-Strom 1000.
So we are talking about a 1000 cc unit here, whereas more or less all of its competitors mounts a 1200 cc engine.
We would expect the electronics to be up for the task, and maybe more horsies than the 98 produced by the first V-Strom 1000.
The appearance perhaps was a little over the top – with a beak as well – but we liked it.
The DL looked pretty promising, but now we have received the official confirmation that the new Suzuki V-Strom 1000 – based on that concept – will actually show up at the next 2013 EICMA exhibition in Milan, and we really hope it won’t be too different from the motorcycle that anticipated it.
The other 1000 cc enduro Jap currently on the market is the Kawasaki Versys, whose price ranges from 12,000 to 13,000 Euros according to the version and market, so we would expect the new V-Strom to be slightly cheaper than that.
However, we will keep our eyes and ears open for more news on the subject.
