In light of the recent article highlighting the substantial financial properties of religious orders (“Religious Orders Occupying Assets Valued in Hundreds of Millions of Euros”, News, 14th September), one could propose a forward-facing plan. What if, instead of focusing on recompensing victims, we implemented the idea of divesting all schools from Catholic (or indeed any religious) patronage?
The compelling argument for secularisation is underscored by the church’s shocking history over the span of several decades.
