Storm Ashley: Applicants Moved Indoors

Lucky Khambule, a representative for the Movement of Asylum Seekers in Ireland (Masi), has reported that individuals applying for international protection who were initially sheltered in tents have now been relocated to houses for their safety in the face of Storm Ashley. This information emerged from his discussions with people residing in Newtownmountkennedy and Crooksling, both in Co Wicklow. No updates have been received from those residing in the Dundrum, Dublin facility where tent accommodation is also utilised.

Khambule emphasised the unsuitability of tents as dwellings, particularly apparent during stormy weather, stating that it’s completely unacceptable. He continued to emphasise the urgency to relocate people from the tents to avoid future incidents. He argued that tents are not fit for purpose as long-term residences, especially during the winter months.
