“South Armagh’s Murder Victim Identified”

The identity of an elderly man who was allegedly murdered in the region of south Armagh has been revealed as Michael McConville. The aged 74 gentleman was discovered lifeless in a residential property along the Annaghmare Road in Crossmaglen on a Saturday evening. The Northern Ireland Police Service (PSNI) has initiated a probe into the alleged murder.

Suspected in connection with the murder, a 67-year-old male was taken into custody earlier and was still held by the police on Monday evening. Detective Chief Inspector Anthony Kelly revealed that Mr McConville had sustained grave injuries to the head, presumably inflicted by a weapon.

“At just past 7pm, officers attended to a reported death within a domicile,” he commented. “Regrettably, the deceased, now identified as Michael McConville, was confirmed dead at the scene. He was found in a bathroom suffering from severe wounds to the skull, allegedly inflicted with a weapon.”

Mr Kelly extended his sympathies to Mr McConville’s kin and friends and pleaded with any individuals who might have valuable information related to the investigation to come forward.

“A murder inquiry is presently ongoing and a 67-year-old suspect has been apprehended and remains in custody pending further investigations,” he continued. “I call on anyone who could potentially aid our investigation to get in touch by dialling 101.”

He further added, “I also urge anyone who might’ve seen or heard suspicious activities in the vicinity of Annaghmare Road between Friday June 14 and Saturday June 16 to contact us quoting the reference number 1435 15/06/24.”
