Six Nations: France eventually overcomes Welsh opposition, breaking away towards the end

In the latest Six Nations competition, France outperformed Wales in a Cardiff match, finishing with a 45-24 victory that pivoted on a vigorous showing in the second half. The match, marked by numerous lead changes, only saw France pull ahead decisively in the final quadrant. The contributing tries were attributed to Gael Fickou at centre, Nolann Le Garrec and Maxime Lucu at scrum half, and Georges-Henri Colombe as prop, along with Romain Taofifenua. Despite imperfections in the performance, relief surely washed over under-fire coach Fabien Galthié after this win.

On the contrary, Wales extends its drought, having clinched only one win in their past 12 Six Nations games. Wales remained competitive for a majority of the match with Rio Dyer, Tomos Williams, and Joe Roberts scoring tries. However, they have yet to register a win in this year’s championship.

After the win, France now stands with 11 points from its four matches, trailing five points behind the front-runner, Ireland. To keep their hopes of trophy-win alive, France not only has to vanquish England, with a bonus point in the upcoming Lyon showdown, but also rely on Scotland to ensure Ireland’s defeat in Dublin. The challenge remains uphill for France due to their less favourable points difference.
