On Monday, after a series of disruptions in Coolock, Dublin, six individuals were charged with offences related to public order. They have been given bail with certain stipulations. During a protest at the now-defunct Crown Paints Factory on Malahide Road, which is set to become a shelter for asylum seekers, Gardaí arrested a number of individuals on Monday evening.
On Tuesday, Judges Cephas Power and Maire Conneely presided over the cases of five men and one woman at Dublin District Court. They had all been charged with refusing to vacate different parts of Coolock, and two among them faced additional allegations of employing intimidating or rude language or conduct. At a special session of the court on Monday night, an additional fifteen individuals were charged with public order offences.
The judges conceded to the granting of bail provided the defendants pledged not to venture towards Malahide Road and the factory. One of the charged individuals was explicitly instructed to avoid the Coolock Garda station. The six defendants, who did not plea in court, were instructed to return on September 10th to submit their pleas. They all obtained legal aid.
Gary Daly (45), who resides in Burnell Square, Northern Cross, Malahide Road, was accused of using threatening or insulting language at Dunree Park, Coolock and refusing to vacate the area even after a warning.
From Pairc Mhuire, Newbridge, Co. Kildare, Tom Printer (67) was charged with ignoring a garda’s order to leave the Oscar Traynor Road vicinity. His lawyer informed the court that his client had hearing troubles and that his failure to leave the scene was the crux of the charge.
Alan Dunne (63), from Bunratty Avenue, Coolock, was charged with not leaving the vicinity of the Coolock Garda station after being instructed to do so.
Edmund Butler (53), a resident of Holywell Crescent, Donaghmede, was accused of not obeying a garda order to depart from the Malahide Road retail park. The court was told he had to pass through Malahide Road and thus Judge Conneely directed him not to halt there.
Hugh O’Rourke, a 55-year-old from Moatview Avenue, Priorswood, has been implicated with charges of refusing to depart from Malahide Road. Simultaneously, Una Colgan, a 69-year-old resident of Achill Court, Drumcondra, stands accused of using threatening, abusive or disrespectful language and actions, and disregarding instructions to exit Oscar Traynor Road.
