“Should Dublin’s city traffic proposal be halted or advanced?”

Dear friend,
I find it perplexing that we held municipal government elections just three weeks and three days ago, yet the central government is calling the shots in the eleventh hour, undermining the decisions made by the Dublin City Council (“Ryan voiced that current bus congestions pose the greatest threat to employment, refusing to postpone the transportation scheme”, News, 30th June).
The Dublin City Development Strategy for 2022-2028 garnered approval from the elected members of the Dublin City Council in November of 2022. Additionally, the Transportation Strategy designed for the Greater Dublin Region was sanctioned by the Transport Minister in December 2022.
The appointment of a directly elected mayor for Dublin is something we urgently need for better governance.
Yours sincerely,
Leo Enright,
Dublin 2.
