Officials from Ireland have deported a sex offender to the Democratic Republic of Congo. The convicted criminal, known as Chico Makamda, who is believed to be in his early forties, was imprisoned in 2019 for confining and assaulting a woman before executing a sexual activity in her presence.
Previously living at an address in Viking House, Coffee House Lane, The Quay, Waterford, Makamda admitted his guilt in committing sexual assault, false imprisonment and robbery at Adare Lane, Dublin, which occurred on April 16th, 2018. Part of his sentence was suspended on the proviso that he departs from Ireland within a fortnight of his liberation.
Despite this, Dublin Circuit Criminal Court found out in July 2022 that Makamda failed to depart the country following his release and furthermore gathered two additional convictions for neglecting to inform the gardaí about his home address, which was mandatory under the Sex Offenders Act.
The Republic of Ireland’s national police and security service, An Garda Síochána, in collaboration with the Department of Justice, administered a successful deportation order for Makamda on a Friday, as stated on the following Saturday.
Makamda was serving his sentence in Midlands Prison for failing to update his details under the Sex Offenders Act 2001, and he has 19 documented prior convictions in the country for a host of sexual offences, false imprisonment and larceny. In light of Makamda’s criminal history, his deportation was marked as a priority operation.
An Garda Síochána conducted their first deportation operation to the Democratic Republic of Congo, following substantial communication between representatives from the Democratic Republic of Congo and GNIB (Garda National Immigration Bureau). This facilitated the procurement of travel documents, visas, and the orchestration of escort arrangements.
