Authorities and emergency services in South Dublin are presently addressing a severe vehicular accident that occurred in Churchtown. The incident took place on Lower Churchtown Road Lower on a recent Sunday morning, with serious concerns raised about the condition of a van driver involved.
Currently, road closures have been enforced at the intersection of the R112 and R117, as well as on Churchtown Road Lower in Dundrum. The closures are part of the efforts by the authorities and other emergency services to manage the situation. Local rerouting is presently in operation, as advised by Gardaí.
This accident adds to an escalating number of road fatalities compared to the previous year. From the start of the year until last Friday morning, the death toll on the roads had already reached 58, marking an increase of 16 compared to the same period in 2023.
Further, early Sunday saw another tragic incident, a man in his 40s, a pedestrian, lost his life in a collision with a car in Midleton, Co Cork. The deadly accident happened on the N25 eastbound at Water Rock in Midleton, around 1.30am.
The man was pronounced dead at the accident site. Authorities closed the road and requested the assistance of forensic collision investigators. Local detours have also been implemented at the scene.
