A female has sustained severe injuries in a suspected attack that took place in a Kilkenny orthopaedic hospital. The incident reportedly happened around 8:30 am on the grounds of Kilcreene Hospital and was attended by law enforcement by 8:50am. The altercation occurred within the outpatient section of the institution, which also serves as the base for the National Ambulance Service of the county, in addition to housing several HSE administrative units.
Police are currently on the grounds, specifically outside the outpatient department, and staff members and patients are being directed to remain inside. An individual employed at the hospital commented on their limited knowledge of the event, noticing the police presence since 8:50 am, but none upon their 8:00 am arrival.
The police conveyed that they received a report and responded to the supposed assault case, which unfolded in a Kilkenny medical facility around 8:30 am. The victim is currently receiving medical attention at St Luke’s General Hospital in Kilkenny for non-critical injuries, as is believed currently.
Local authorities are actively pursuing investigations, with a police helicopter involved in the manhunt for the male suspect. The Ireland East Hospital Group (IEHG) issued a statement affirming their collaboration with An Garda Síochána post the incident at Kilcreene Regional Orthopaedic Hospital. IEHG voiced that the staff and management are wholly supportive of the police’s ongoing probe.
