Search operations for a lost hiker on the Dingle Peninsula, Co Kerry continued into Sunday, marking five days since the initiation of rescue activities. Sebastian Jaworksi, a 46-year-old Pole based in Cork, was last observed in the vicinity of Mount Brandon’s peak, timing back to June 23rd around half past three in the afternoon. A call for aid from the Kerry Mountain Rescue Team was made by the gardaí two days following Mr Jaworksi’s last sighting, on June 25th.
The pace of search efforts amplified over the weekend after the planned searches throughout the week faced challenges due to adverse weather situations. Mr Jaworksi is recognised as a seasoned mountaineer with sufficient familiarity of the Brandon area.
The Coast Guard revealed on Sunday that a number of its units were providing assistance to An Garda Síochána in locating Mr Jaworksi. A representative stated the Marine Rescue Co-ordination Sub-centre in Valentia had assigned the Shannon (R115) and Waterford (R117) based Coast Guard rescue helicopters and Coast Guard Units from Dingle, Glenderry, and Iveragh in response to the gardaí’s alert last Tuesday, 25th June.
The Kerry Mountain Rescue Team had previously requested the public’s help for any information related to Mr Jaworski’s location. Explaining that despite the extensive ground and aerial surveys carried out since the emergency was declared on Tuesday, Mr Jaworski’s whereabouts remain unknown, a member of the rescue team remarked on Friday. They sought details from anyone who might’ve seen him in the Brandon area from Sunday afternoon.
They urged individuals with any knowledge of circumstances to get in touch with the Dingle Garda station.
