A plane, travelling from Scotland to Spain and crossing Irish airspace, unexpectedly touched down at Shannon Airport in County Clare on a Wednesday afternoon. This unexpected diversion was due to an on-board incident, after which the pilot sought and received permission to land. The incident occurred approximately at 5.30pm and resulted in an arrest at the airport by local law enforcement officials.
The detained individual is a man in his twenties, who is currently held at a police station in County Clare, as confirmed by the Police Press Office. The man’s case will likely be heard at an Ennis-based court on the following Thursday morning.
This incident led to the arrest of the young man by police officers stationed at Shannon Airport on Wednesday 12th June 2024, around 5:30 pm. Police received the diverted aircraft, and the arrest was made under the provisions of the Non-Fatal Offences Against the Person Act of 1997. Presently, the man is apprehended on the basis of Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act from 1984.
