“Scheme for deposit reimbursement and materials recycling”

Dear Editor,

After experimenting with the Re-Turn deposit practice, I am left underwhelmed by its benefits. I am not a newcomer to recycling, having previously utilized my waste collector to recycle aluminium cans and plastic bottles.

In my opinion, a more judicious investment would have been a system for reusing clean glass bottles and jars without the need for a cumbersome visit to glass bottle banks. Would it not be more energy-efficient to avoid the process of reshaping shattered glass back into bottles or jars?

A further suggestion is to mandate manufacturers to target the production of entirely recyclable packaging materials, necessitating them to provide explicit recycling instructions on their products rather than issuing vague directives such as “verify locally” or “recycle at larger supermarkets”.

Sincerely,
