“Schauffele Clinches Open Crown, Lowry Falls Short”

Xander Schauffele, the American golfing stalwart, clinched his second Major victory in the summer, scoring a six-under 65 at the final match in Royal Troon on Sunday, to secure the Claret Jug. This triumph comes after his success at the US PGA in Valhalla in May, where he also finished with a six-under 65, marking his first Major win. Now, the 30-year-old San Diego native is set to defend the Olympic title that he secured in Tokyo in 2021 during the upcoming tournament in Paris.

Schauffele ended the match at nine-under, a mere two strokes ahead of England’s Justin Rose and fellow American Billy Horschel. Rose concluded his game with a four-under 67, whilst Horschel bagged birdies in his last three holes, resulting in a 68.

Thriston Lawrence from South Africa, who maintained the lead for the first 11 holes in the final round, ended a stroke behind in fourth position, after concluding his game with a 68.

Meanwhile, Shane Lowry of Ireland, managed to secure the sixth position at four-under after a three-under 68. His early performance suggested a promising game with four birdies in five holes and subsequently turning in 33. However, he struggled to keep the momentum going in the latter half with lesser opportunities coming his way, a bogey on the tricky 11th and a birdie on the 17th hole amidst cheers from the audience. A detailed report will be released in due course.
