Two renowned Italian vinos are on my radar this week, namely Rizzardi Pinot Grigio which I have regarded highly for a while now. Although it commands a slightly higher price than some of its counterparts, it is a true value for the extra pounds spent, especially considering its discounted price of £11.95.
Simultaneously, O’Briens is currently holding a sale of French wines which includes some very reasonably priced offerings. One standout is the Mâcon-Villages La Côte Blanche (£14.76, originally £18.45), a regular at O’Briens and an excellent versatile option to complement a variety of meals.
From the red wine collection, the velvety and fruity Ferraton Côtes du Rhône Samorëns (£13.45, originally £16.95) is definitely worth attempting. I am equally passionate about the the smooth Château Sainte Marie from Bordeaux (£15.96 , originally £19.95).
Rizzardi Pinot Grigio delle Venezie 2023
A notably superior pinot grigio featuring fresh pear and apple flavours, a pleasant hint of citrus, and a dry finish. It serves well as an aperitif and pairs beautifully with light seafood dishes and green salads.
12.5% abv. £11.95, reduced from £16.45, available from O’Briens. [Only the year influences the quality of top-tier wines.]
Vigneti del Sole Montepulciano d’Abruzzo 2022
A mellow, refreshing red wine filled with ripe blackcurrants and cherry notes. It’s a match made in heaven with pizza, tomato-based pasta dishes and antipasti.
12.5% abv. £11.95, reduced from £14.95, available from O’Briens.
