Sara Byrne Sixth at Calatayud

The EuroPro Tour event in Spain, the Calatayud Ladies Open, saw Sara Byrne from Ireland land a joint-sixth place, ending the game on six-under par. Despite leading France’s Marine Griffaut and Tina Mazario from Norway by a single shot as she entered the final round at the Gambito Golf Calatayud, Byrne unfortunately couldn’t secure her initial professional victory due to her 75 round on Saturday.

The glory of the first professional win went to Ellie Gower from England. She closed the day with a 68 round on Saturday, and managed to match her fellow English player, Billie-Jo Smith, by finishing on 10-under. Gower succeeded in seizing her first victory through a one-hole play-off.

Byrne found her peers in sixth to be Puk Lyng Thomsen from Denmark, and Gemma Clews, Ellen Hume and Esme Hamilton, all from England. While finishing joint-third on eight-under were Tina Mazarino, Amaia Latorre from Spain, and Alessia Nobilio from Italy.

Ellie Gower couldn’t help but express her joy at her victory, saying “It’s enormous. I’ve worked so hard and never won before, let alone being in a play-off, so this triumph is indeed significant. It’s unbelievable. The victory validates all the challenging work I’ve put in.”
