In a particularly deadly single attack of the ongoing conflict, Russia launched an assault on a military establishment in the central town of Poltava, causing the deaths of a minimum of 41 individuals and injuring over 180, revealed Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy on Tuesday. Zelenskiy announced in an online clip that Russian troops used two ballistic weapons to devastate a structure belonging to the Military Institute of Communications.
He mentioned that he has mandated an immediate and exhaustive examination into the particulars of the onslaught. Utilising the Telegram messaging platform, Zelenskiy vowed to make those he labelled as “Russian scum” answerable for their actions in the strike.
However, despite limited progress in the preliminary discussions, Joe Biden and Xi Jinping are expected to have a meeting before the year closes. Presence of far-right elements in Israel’s coalition is raising questions about the motive behind the attacks on West Bank. As for Germany, the recent state election outcomes have unsettled Olaf Scholz and have implications across the country.
Zelenskiy reiterated his pleas for the West to provide more air defence reinforcements and asked allies to sanction the use of their extensive range armaments for counter-strikes deeper into Russian territory, for the sake of Ukraine’s safety. He stressed his belief to world powers that Ukraine requires missile and air defence systems on its lands, not stored away elsewhere.
“Long-range counterattacks capable of shielding us from Russian aggression are of immediate requirement, not at some vague future point. Unfortunately, life is lost with every passing day of delay,” he added.
