Following their victory at the Zurich Classic in New Orleans, Rory McIlroy and Shane Lowry were thrust into the limelight, performing on stage rather than on the golf course. McIlroy, the native of Holywood, Co Down, gave an unexpectedly stellar performance of Journey’s cult 80s hit Don’t Stop Believin’.
Recordings of McIlroy and Lowry’s jubilant celebration of their PGA Tour triumph quickly took the internet by storm. McIlroy notably impressed with his take on the lyrics detailing a “small-town girl, living in a lonely world” and a “city boy”, revelling in the aftermath of their collective 25th career win on the PGA Tour. Lowry, although present, did not participate in this song performance.
However, it should not be assumed that Lowry is unaware of how to carry a tune, as he demonstrated back in 2019. When he claimed the watchful gaze of the Claret Jug, he journeyed from one celebratory event to the next, often concluding with standing ovations for his rendition of Christy Moore’s popular tune, My Little Honda 50.
