Rome legends: Gaius Trebatius Testa’ s remedy for insomnia

Rome is a city teeming with tantalising secrets and legends and one of these has it that Roman jurist Gaius Trebatius Testa, a close friend of the great poet Horace‘s, had a very useful remedy for insomnia.
All you had to do, according to his theory, was to swim across the Tiber river three times in a row and then when this was done, pour a whole pint of wine over your body! Well today one can still take “wine baths” , but I’m not sure about crossing the river: pollution makes it too risky!!
