Róisín Garvey, Senator from the Green Party, has secured the position of deputy leader beating Neasa Hourigan, a dissenting backbencher, in a tightly contested voting process. Garvey, a native of Co Clare and a nominee of the taoiseach to the Seanad in 2020, triumphed with a slim majority of 13 votes, securing 333 against Hourigan’s 320.
