Brendan Rodgers has urged his Celtic team not to let up, but keep their opponents on their toes with a high-paced beginning to games. In their first three official matches, Celtic secured twice goals in the initial half, earning them a series of wins. Rodgers hopes that the on-form team will keep pushing for quick initial goals to unbalance opposing teams.
“I think the hallmark of an exceptional team is to kick-off swiftly and end on a high note,” Rodgers shared with Celtic TV. “We’re not keen to hang back and watch the game evolve; rather, we aim to dictate the rhythm and approach of the match. Even though modern football teams are likely to have comprehensive data about us, they cannot anticipate the pace at which our team plays, which can only fully be experienced in the moment. This is a vital element in all my teams. We’re observing this trend within our current team where both the pace and the standard are notably high, and our aim is to keep this momentum for as long as possible during the match.”
Following a promising preseason inclusive of wins over Premier League teams Chelsea and Manchester City, Celtic has had an impressive start to the campaign. “I believe this is a result of our mindset and the groundwork we’ve laid throughout the preseason,” Rodgers stated. “We started off back with a highly positive attitude. Both players and coaches have been putting in a lot of effort during practices, and the way we’ve managed this has led us to start the season totally in sync and united as a group. We’ve managed to carry that momentum forward. The preseason preparations have proven to be extremely productive.”
As Rodgers’ team prepares to face Stephen Robinson’s St Mirren in the William Hill Premiership on Sunday, he hopes the team will continue with their current winning streak. He shares his admiration for Stephen Robinson stating, “Stephen is an exceptional coach and manager, he’s executed a remarkable job at St Mirren, similarly to his role at Motherwell,” Rodgers added, “He’s led them through several European football rounds which is a significant accomplishment, we’re thus preparing for a challenging match against this well-directed and well-trained team.”
