“Richie Murphy Confirmed as Ulster Coach”

Ulster has officially announced a two-year contract extension for Richie Murphy, solidifying his role as the club’s permanent head coach. Murphy assumed the role on an interim basis in March, following the departure of predecessor Dan McFarland. Since then, under Murphy’s guidance, the club has enjoyed four wins against three losses. Currently, Ulster holds the sixth position in the URC standings, just a point away from the fifth-placed Stormers and within the playoff bracket.

Expressing his delight on the assignment, Murphy expressed his gratitude to the supportive staff, particularly praising Bryn Cunningham for assisting him in settling. He reinforced his keenness to extend his term with Ulster, recognising the growth potential of the province and his own contribution towards it.

Before his tenure with Ulster, Murphy brought Ireland U20s consecutive Grand Slams in 2022 and 2023. The team narrowly missed a third successive title this year, finishing just a point below England. Murphy has also served with Leinster and Ireland’s backroom staff, primarily as a kicking and skills coach under Joe Schmidt.
