Revolut initiates eSIM functionality along with universal data plans for clients in Ireland

Revolut, a fintech firm, has recently introduced a digital eSIM card for its Irish clientele, becoming the inaugural financial entity in Ireland to venture into the eSIM sphere. Instead of traditional, detachable SIM cards, eSIMs comprise of software that is implanted onto a permanent chip inside a compatible gadget. Established Irish network service providers like Vodafone and Three are already providing eSIMs, which work well with most 4G/5G Apple and Android phones.

Starting from today, over 2.5 million Irish Revolut consumers will have the facility to use the eSIM, regardless of their subscription plan. After activation, users can top up data wherever they are, bypassing the need for a traditional SIM card and avoiding unforeseen roaming costs. Even in the absence of data access, Revolut consumers can utilise the app along with all its features, including data top-up if needed, without depleting their mobile data quota.

Data fees will start at €2 for 1GB, with availability in over 100 countries. Data schemes range from 1GB to 20GB, granting customers the flexibility to choose regional or global data schemes covering numerous countries. Ultra plan subscribers of Revolut who opt for the eSIM will also be entitled to 3GB of global data on a monthly basis. As an incentive, Revolut is handing out 100MB of global data free of charge to Irish users who install the new eSIM prior to May 1st.

The eSIM, as per Elyas Sadou, product owner at Revolut, facilitates easy access to mobile data, eliminating high costs and the hassle of purchasing and managing a physical SIM card. Sadou expressed that it was a transformative feature for regular travellers as they can easily avail a data plan with a few taps on their mobile, and instantly capture and share images of their travels.

Revolut, the fintech company, has entered into a partnership with eSIM experts, 1 GLOBAL, based in London. The alliance will help Revolut harness 1 GLOBAL’s global mobile network and eSIM technology to boost its own architecture.

The founder and CEO of 1 GLOBAL, Hakan Koç, stated that their firm offers mobile network connectivity across over 160 countries globally. He also mentioned that their eSIM technology could seamlessly blend into Revolut’s existing application and be installed on any eSIM-compatible mobile device in less than sixty seconds.
