“Results for Fingal County Council in the Local Elections”

A total of 91 contenders are vying for the 40 council seats in Fingal County. This council jurisdiction incorporates areas of northern and western Dublin, including the highly-populated regions of Swords and Blanchardstown, and is split into seven local electoral wards. At present, the council is under the joint control of Fianna Fáil, the Green Party, Labour and independent members.

Sinn Féin is fronting the most candidates, a sum of 15, followed by Fianna Fáil with 13, Fine Gael with nine and Labour with eight. The Green Party has put forward seven contenders, whilst People Before Profit – Solidarity has six, the Social Democrats have offered five and Aontú four. Two candidates are representing the Irish Freedom Party, and there’s a single candidate from Independents4Change, The Irish People and the National Party.

Not affiliated with a party are nineteen hopefuls, inclusive of one contender making a run for two separate local electoral wards.

The majority of former councillors, 39 out of 40, are campaigning for re-election, exception being Cllr Natalie Treacy from Sinn Féin who is now running in the Dublin City Council region.

Common issues being presented on doorsteps across the local area include housing provisions, the availability of GP services – as many surgeries are full and not accepting new patients, a lack of spaces in secondary schools and accessibility to autism support service.
