Kylian Mbappé, the French international striker, has signed a five-year contract with Real Madrid, marking the end of protracted transfer negotiations. This acquisition by the La Liga giants was publicised this Monday, with the club fresh from their 15th European Cup win. An official statement confirmed that Mbappé will play for the reigning Spanish champions for the coming five seasons.
The 25-year-old French captain publicised his departure from Paris St Germain via a video on social media platform X on May 10th. He moved to the Paris-based club in 2017 from Monaco, first as a loanee before a permanent transfer was processed for a reported £165.7 million the subsequent year.
During his stint with PSG, Mbappé has amassed six Ligue 1 titles as well as a series of domestic cup wins. He produced an impressive 256 goals in his 308 appearances for PSG. Despite his accomplishments, the Champions League title has managed to escape his grasp. Even though PSG made it to the final in 2020, they succumbed to Bayern Munich and fell at the semi-final stage to Borussia Dortmund in the latest competition. Real Madrid however, defeated Borussia Dortmund 2-0 at Wembley on the following Saturday.
