“Rare 4.7 Magnitude Earthquake Hits NYC”

On Friday morning, a substantial seismic event, rating 4.7 on the Richter scale, was experienced in the region of New York City, as reported by the US Geological Survey. This unexpected event brought surprise to those living in a region far from regular earthquake activity and resulted in buildings shaking.

The USGS pinpointed the epicentre of the quake close to Whitehouse Station, New Jersey, with no immediate reports of any damage resulting from the tremor.

The quake’s initial magnitude was estimated at 5.5 by the European Mediterranean Seismological Centre, a notable deviation from the measurement recorded by the USGS.

The earthquake’s impact was felt over a wide area, having an effect on residents of New York City, New Jersey, northern Pennsylvania and western Connecticut. This was confirmed through Reuters correspondents and various online social platforms.

Bronx borough resident, Charita Walcott, aged 38, arrived at the analogy of “a violent rumble” to describe how the roughly 30-second long earthquake felt, comparing the sensation to that experienced in a “drum circle”.

This story is developing and further updates are to be expected.
