Mike Quirke, ex-midfielder of Kerry, has declared his intention to step down from his position within the back room team of the Kerry Senior football panel. Quirke, who has clinched the All-Ireland title four times with Kerry, made his departure known via social media on Wednesday, stating, “After 3 generally delightful years, I’ve resolved to exit my role with the Kerry senior squad.”
Quirke, a stalwart of the Kerins O’Rahillys club, had devoted three seasons to Jack O’Connor’s backroom staff, post his resignation as the manager of the Laois Senior footballers in July 2021, after a two-season tenure. Under O’Connor’s initial term as Kerry’s manager, Quirke helped secure two All-Irelands.
In his social media announcement, Quirke expressed great appreciation for the ability to make a contribution to an esteemed and fervid football community. Although he will no longer be on the sidelines, Quirke affirmed his enduring support for Kerry football. He shared fervently, “I look forward to offering my encouragement to the team in the impending seasons.”
