Queen of England since 6 February 1952, Elizabeth celebrates 70 years of her reign today at a reception at Sandringham House in Norfolk.
Queen Elizabeth’s longevity record
Queen Elizabeth, 95, looked in great form during a reception at Sandringham House in Norfolk.
Elizabeth became Queen exactly 70 years ago when her father, King George VI, died suddenly on 6 February 1952. Today there will be platinum jubilee celebrations.

The Queen’s joke in front of her guests
As reported by the ‘Daily Mail’, the Queen also made her guests laugh during the banquet. In front of the 70th anniversary cake, the Queen said: “I think it’s enough that I put the knife in, then someone else can do the rest.”

The return of the public to the reception
Today’s reception is also the busiest event the Queen has attended since last October, when she had health problems. In the past few months, Elizabeth was also admitted overnight to hospital and doctors advised her to avoid large events and stay at rest.
