In a tragic accident that took place in the early hours of Sunday on Ballynahonemore Road, Armagh, a lone vehicle mishap claimed the lives of four individuals. The calamity involved a Volkswagen Golf and occurred around 2:10am, as reported by the Northern Ireland Police Service (PSNI).
The fatalities, yet to be officially named, comprised of the driver and three other passengers. They were pronounced dead on site by the PSNI. PSNI Superintendent Paul McGrattan described the mishap as a tragedy beyond words, calamitous both for the directly impacted families and the community at large, who are currently grappling with the shocking loss.
Supt McGrattan also declared that a comprehensive and sensitive inquiry into the incident is currently in progress, with any individuals potentially holding useful information urged to contact the Collision Investigation Unit. He noted that law enforcement officials are maintaining a presence at the scene, and that Ballynahonemore Road will be sealed off for the majority of the day. He extended thoughts and condolences from the entire police force to the friends, families and dear ones of the departed.
Speaking about the unfortunate occurrence, Jeffrey Donaldson, the leader of the DUP, termed it as a major disaster. Through a message shared on X, he conveyed heartrending news from Armagh, explicating that thoughts and prayers are with the bereaved families devastated by the incident.
