“Pupil lodging”

It is worth recognising the architectural students at Dublin’s Technological University for their commendable plans to provide accommodation for up to 6,000 students on campus. However, it appears that the responsibility of physically constructing the accommodations may also fall on them.

A blueprint providing a proposal for just above 2,000 on-site sleeping quarters was endorsed by An Bord Pleanála over a decade ago via an accelerated processing plan. To date, not a single unit has been erected. A representative of Dublin’s Technological University has been quoted remarking that the completion date is currently indefinite. I have reason to believe that a significant part of this uncertainty is due to the unknown starting date.

Imagine the time frame this process might take if we take into account a potential accommodation predicament for tertiary level students.

Yours faithfully,
Pat O’Brien,
Rathmines,
Dublin 6.
