Promise from the East

Dear Editor,

This past Friday, as we departed from Dublin for a delightful weekend getaway in Cork, we were taken aback to see signs declaring our entrance into ‘Ireland’s Ancient “East”‘ upon crossing the boundaries of Cork and Limerick. While I appreciate and understand the marketing ploys employed by Bord Fáilte, I can assure you our journey was strictly in westward and then southward direction from Dublin. However, what truly astounds me is the idea that proud citizens of the People’s Republic would embrace being categorised as Easterners.

Yours sincerely,
Brian Kelly,
Dublin 14.
