In a forthcoming appearance in the High Court, Prof Philip Nolan will petition for an injunction to halt his termination from Science Foundation Ireland (SFI). Prof Nolan’s lawyer, Padraic Lyons SC, informed the court that his client was informed of his firing as the director general of the research agency on Monday evening. Giving an urgent request to Mr Justice Rory Mulcahy, Lyons revealed that Prof Nolan was seeking an injunction to suspend his termination, stating that all necessary documentation would be prepared by midday. The judge agreed to preside over the case at 2pm if the court received the files by that time. In a recent announcement, SFI confirmed Prof Nolan’s removal as director general and reported the appointment of an interim leader. SFI operates as a State-funded research agency, offering funding to international researchers looking to establish their work in Ireland.
