In the Premier League, Brentford had a convincing win of 3-1 at home against the recently upgraded Southampton team, relegating the latter to the league’s basement spot. Just prior to halftime, the game’s initial lead was established by Bryan Mbeumo who used a simple low drive to net the ball after an attempted strike by Kevin Schade deflected off the post. He solidified this lead by scoring once again in the 65th minute, this time with a first attempt at the game, while Yoane Wissa added another in the 69th minute. Southampton mildly redeemed themselves in injury time with a single goal from Yukinari Sugawara. Brentford now sits at fifth on the league table.
In another encounter at Goodison Park, Everton was left devastated by a 3-2 loss at the hands of Bournemouth. After a quiet opening half, Everton initially took control of the second half with two quick goals in seven minutes from Michael Keane and Dominic Calvert-Lewin. However, Bournemouth’s comeback started in the final three minutes by Antoine Semenyo scoring, followed by a powerful header by Lewis Cook and a last-minute winner from Luis Sinisterra during injury time.
Over at Ipswich Town, a 1-1 home draw with Fulham secured them their first Premier League point. The home team took first blood with a 15th-minute goal by Liam Delap which the Fulham goalkeeper, Bernd Leno, almost halted. Fulham quickly regrouped, though, with winger Adama Traore equalising 17 minutes later on the end of a fine passage of play initiated by Antonee Robinson.
During a challenging and physically demanding game, neither team managed to make promising goalscoring opportunities. Omari Hutchinson almost secured a goal during extra time, but the match concluded in a tie, with neither team having managed to score any additional goals.
In a match between Leicester City and Aston Villa, the latter managed to reclaim their victorious streak in the Premier League. The 2-1 victory at Leicester was made possible thanks to Amadou Onana and Jhon Duran’s successful goalscoring. Onana, a recent signee, made a close-range goal following a well-coordinated free kick in the first half of the match.
Leicester, hoping for their maiden victory following their return to the Premier League, appeared more competitive in the second half of the match. However, Duran’s header in the 63rd minute seemed to have put an end to their hopes. Leicester were granted an opportunity when Facundo Buonanotte managed to score a goal 10 minutes subsequently, yet they could not save themselves and Villa easily defended their lead.
Villa, having suffered defeat against Arsenal the prior weekend, now holds six points from three matches, with Leicester maintaining a single point.
When Nottingham Forest faced Wolves, a stupendous strike by Jean-Ricner Bellegarde allowed Wolverhampton Wanderers to secure their initial point of the Premier League season, ending in a 1-1 tie at Nottingham. The game began energetically, with Chris Wood, New Zealand’s forward, cornering a goal in the 10th minute, having remained unchallenged in the penalty zone. Bellegarde retaliated swiftly, achieving a fabulous goal two minutes later. The game ended without either team securing a definitive win, thereby enabling Forest to maintain their unbeaten record for the season.
