Power’s 66 Boosts FedEx Cup Hopes

Séamus Power positioned himself well for a potential advance to the next stage of the FedEx Cup, scoring a four-under-par 66 in Memphis. The promising start with a 67 in the first round at the FedEx St Jude Championship was followed by a par-70 on the second day, leaving his prospects of entering the top 50 for the upcoming BMW Championship doubtful. However, Power turned the tables on Saturday, scoring five birdies with just one bogey, ending his round with a tied 12th position at seven under and was anticipated to rank 59th. To stay in the competition, the 37-year-old would likely need to secure at least a position within the top five.

Shane Lowry’s fluctuating week went on, as he shot for eagle from the 18th hole’s bunker earlier and added another eagle at the 16th in the third round. His performance was a mixed bag with one eagle, two birdies, and four bogeys, which resulted in a par-round score of 70, two under for the competition.

Meanwhile, Rory McIlroy’s difficulties persisted, as he scored four over for the day, five over for the competition through 12 holes, and was tied at the 68th position out of the 70 participating players. McIlroy’s driving performance did not meet his usual standards, losing more than three shots to the field at TPC Southwind and struggling to regain some form for the remaining FedEx Cup.

In the lead was Hideki Matsuyama of the tournament with 14 under after nine holes in his third round.

In related news, Lauren Coughlin led after the third round of the Women’s Scottish Open at Dundonald Links, achieving a bogey-free round of 66. Leona Maguire was the only Irish player to qualify, yet her standing was far down the leaderboard following a score of 75, putting her in a tied 63rd position.
