Power Ties 13th, Echavarria Wins

Justin Thomas narrowly missed claiming his first PGA Tour title in more than two years as Colombian golfer Nico Echavarria took home the trophy at the Zozo Championship in Chiba. With a three-under-par final round score of 67 that included two birdies on the last three holes, Echavarria defeated Thomas and Max Greyserman, who both finished second. Thomas, who last won a tournament at the PGA Championship in 2022, expressed feelings of disappointment but remained optimistic, vowing to stay competitive and continue his good performance.

Séamus Power from Ireland, who had previously tied for fourth spot with a solid eight-under second round of 62, slipped to the 13th place, following a final round of 66. This marks Power’s fourth time ranking in the top 15 in his past six events, as he endeavors to climb higher than his current 121st global ranking.

On the women’s side, at the LPGA Tour, Leona Maguire ended in a tie for the 35th position at the Maybank Championship in Malaysia, following a final round of 71. Ruoning Yin from China clinched the title, defeating Jeeno Thitikul by a single shot.

At the DP World Tour, a playoff saw Byeong-hun An of South Korea secure the Genesis Championship title against fellow countryman Tom Kim. With both players aiming for the par-five hole at the Jack Nicklaus Golf Club during the playoff, Kim found himself in a challenging position with his ball in thick rough by the bunker near the green. Despite his effort to chip back onto the green, Kim missed his par putt, leaving An with two opportunities to win. Claiming his second DP World Tour title, An required just one chance to achieve victory, a feat he first accomplished at the BMW PGA Championship in 2015.
