Séamus Power from Ireland managed to clinch a joint second place in the Valspar Championship, Florida, following a third round scoring three under 68. The golfer from Waterford’s tournament score stood at eight under, two shots trailing behind American golfer Keith Mitchell. Mitchell performed exceptionally on the 18th hole, achieving an eagle two from 150 yards during his third-round 66.
Power marked his round with a total of four birdies and a lone bogey whilst tying at eight under with Mackenzie Hughes from Canada and Peter Malnati from the USA. Despite starting his round with three bogeys amongst two birdies on the front nine, Mitchell was able to make a remarkable recovery in the last half of his round. This propelled him into the leading position ahead of the fourth day of the tournament.
Mitchell’s performance was highlighted by his birdie scored on the 12th hole, that shifted his momentum, and his ensuing birdies on the 14th, 16th, and 17th holes set the stage for a remarkable eagle on the final hole. This outstanding performance landed him on top. Providing tough competition are Chandler Phillips, Cameron Young, and Brendon Todd, who are all trailing closely at seven under in the championship.
