Power Restored After Sandyford Fire Outage

Around 4,000 households in Dublin’s Tallaght and Dundrum regions regained electricity on Sunday afternoon following repairs to ESB lines, which were damaged by a gorse fire near Stepaside. During the afternoon, the extensive smoke from the fire was visible throughout much of Dublin, and six units of the Dublin Fire Brigade, accompanied by two water tankers, responded to the incident. By late afternoon, it appeared that the fire was being effectively controlled.

Social media updates from the DFB revealed that traffic was closed off on Woodside Road, and Slate Cabin Road was partially blocked. They also reported that strong winds were spreading smoke across a large area. The DFB advised locals to keep their windows shut, since brigade members were trying to safeguard properties from the fire’s effects.

Local councillor, Oisín O’Connor, suggested that due to the significant amount of smoke, residents should remain indoors. Although the fire seemed confined to a relatively small area according to online videos, it was creating an abundant amount of smoke. The DFB stated receiving roughly 200 calls about the fire.

No casualties were reported according to An Garda Síochána. They also confirmed that their officers were providing assistance to the fire services on the scene.
