“Poll Method: 1,500 Nationwide Interviews”

A research study, facilitated exclusively by Ipsos B&A on behalf of The Irish Times, targeted adults over 18 years of age in a representative quota sample. A total of 1,500 interviews were conducted across all constitutuencies at diverse 150 sampling points. The sample size for this survey, exceeding the usual for The Irish Times/Ipsos B&A polls, was designed to encompass 500 interviews from each of the Euro constituencies.

From the 11th to the 15th of May 2024, in-person interviews were conducted in respondents’ homes. The margin of error is estimated to be roughly 2.5% plus or minus. However, for the European Parliament polls with a sample size of 500 each, the margin of error is estimated to be around 4.4% plus or minus.

The survey was regulated by AIMRO and ESOMAR guidelines in all aspects.

From February 2016 onwards, a query concerning the importance of voting is included. Respondents are prompted to gauge the influence of their vote on a scale of one to ten—with one signifying “no impact” and ten “extremely impactful”. Those who respond with “one” are classified as non-voters and are not factored into the party preference calculation. We also exclude those who do not know how they will vote or indicate that they will not vote.

The way in which today’s poll is presented has deviated from prior practices where minor parties were often clustered under the “independents and others” category. Now, all minor parties with representation in the Dáil and holding considerable national standing are categorised separately. Independents and smaller parties remain grouped together.
